The Franconia Soaring Foundation is excited to host the 40th annual Old Man Rugby Tournament at the Franconia Airport this Saturday, June 1st, 2024. This event was originated in 1985 by two members of the Boston Rugby Club. Both men had summer homes in the area and were looking to combine the beauty of the area with their friends and comrades in the rugby community. The driving purpose of this event then and still to this day, is to have a fun day playing a fun game with a lot of fun people.
The tournament continues to attract between 6 to 8 Old Boy Rugby Clubs per year from the northeast United States and Eastern Canada. Players must be over 40 years old. This seemingly small event has had a lasting economic and social impact on Franconia.`
Officially run though the New Hampshire Rugby Football Foundation, all proceeds from The Old Man of the Mountain Rugby Tournament are directed and provided to a youth player or players working to advance their skills and/or knowledge of the Game of Rugby. Over the past several years funds have been used to send players to regional or national development camps, and to assist some in going to college.”
